Biography
Shelby Hanson was born in Merriam, Kansas and raised in Manassas, Virginia. She received her BFA with honors from James Madison University and her MFA from the University of Montana. Upon receiving her MFA, Hanson taught as an Adjunct Professor at New Mexico Highlands University in the enchanted town of Las Vegas, New Mexico before relocating to the state of Virginia. Her artistic research investigates themes of family, identity, and the feminine through printmaking, fiber arts, painting, and sculpture. Hanson currently lives in the Richmond area and works for Virginia Commonwealth University.
